Hey, hey! I'm not sure if anyone's reading this, but it's something I've always wanted to do. And as I enter 2023 at the ripe age of 24, I figured now would be a great time to start. I want to start blogging. I know, you're sick of my writing. That's all I do as a reporter. But I want to expand and challenge myself to write leisurely about something more personal: My skincare journey. People who know me have first-handedly witnessed my physical and mental struggle with my skin. As expected, I had hormonal, cystic acne during my middle school years. More recently, these zits were replaced by more lifelong, genetic conditions that showed up: rosacea, folliculitis (fungal acne) and eczema. It's been a debilitating journey. I think back to the weekends I stayed in, insecure and self-conscious about the way my skin looked in certain lighting. I get sad when I think about the wasted years when I was more pre-occupied with my acne and redness than the memories I could have been making in college.
That's why for me, skincare is personal. I've spent years researching ingredients, learning new terminology like "exfoliation" and "dermaplaning" through a trial-and-error process of what works, and unfortunately, what didn't. I want to share this experience with you all. Part of it is to document my decade of research and make it useful for others. But it's also to educate my readers who relate to my story, to help those who turned to ignorant skincare advice out of desperation or wasted hundreds of dollars on expensive yet unnecessary procedures that promise instant, perfect skin. I've tried it all. And let me tell you: It was a journey finding the few things that are right for me and my sensitive skin. Follow along for my upcoming blogs about my beauty, lifestyle and skincare routine! My do's and do not's. I want to make this process affordable and accessible – especially as I look back to my past self and occasionally relapse into those toxic thoughts. Of course, I'll dabble in some of my other passions: My OOTD's, must-have purchases, etc. But it's a chance to hear some of my thoughts, and an even greater opportunity for me to ramble to you all.
I'd love to hear any of your thoughts, suggestions, love notes and hate comments at jennaryu2000 @ gmail.com. That way, I know I'm at least talking to someone through my posts. Thanks for reading this far and looking forward to keeping you all posted- however many of you there are. Jenna
